JALINGO— Academic activities at Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, face imminent disruption as Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas maintains silence over the 14-day ultimatum issued by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-TSU).
The ultimatum, which demands the full implementation of applicable provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement, is set to elapse on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Speaking with correspondents, the ASUU-TSU Branch Chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, confirmed that the union has not received any official correspondence from Governor Kefas since the notice was served.
Dr. Mbave noted that while other northern governors have approved the agreed demands—with Gombe State approving payments last week—Taraba remains the only state in the region yet to act.
”We have not received any message from Governor Kefas—neither verbal nor written,” Dr. Mbave stated.
“After the ultimatum was issued, we met with the Ministry, but nothing tangible was put forward to communicate to our members.”
The union cautioned that the ultimatum was not an invitation for protracted negotiations, but a directive for compliance backed by ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Dr. Mbave appealed to civil society, parents, and community leaders to intervene before the deadline runs out.
”Our desire is to ensure academic stability in the university; it is unfortunate that the disruption of academic calendars does not seem to bother the state government.
“If action is not taken before the deadline elapses in 48 hours, I urge parents, students, and the university community to hold the governor responsible.”
