The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, has urged corps members posted to schools to teach with pride and diligence, saying education remains a critical area of national service.
Addressing the 2026 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Dazigau, in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State on Thursday, the DG said corps members were deployed to serve the nation in their host communities and must give their best in assigned places of primary assignment.

“Wherever you are posted, serve with commitment. Those of you posted to schools should teach with pride and diligence,” he said.
General Nafiu also charged corps members to look beyond conventional employment after the service and embrace skills acquisition, noting that “skills bring money.”
He cited a medical doctor who earns ₦1.5 million monthly salary and an additional ₦600,000 from a barbing business and other ventures.
On discipline, the DG urged corps members to remain politically neutral and respect the rules of the scheme.

“Respect the scheme, respect the rules of the game and remain neutral in politics,” he cautioned.
He also warned against unauthorised journeys, noting that only the State Coordinator can approve travel outside Yobe State.
The DG used the visit to inspect facilities at Dazigau Camp and commended “the visible transformation under State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara”.
He declared the camp “cleaner, tidier, more organised and more accommodating” than during his last visit.
Okpara, who assumed office in December as the State NYSC Coordinator, had earlier outlined key achievements in the state and appealed for the deployment of more corps members “to maximise the upgraded infrastructure”.
