The Cross River State Government has intensified efforts to recover public assets and strengthen accountability through a series of reforms aimed at safeguarding government property and improving revenue generation.

The administration’s asset recovery drive was highlighted on Monday during a sectoral media briefing in Calabar, where members of the Forum of Special Advisers presented the achievements of Governor Bassey Otu’s government across various sectors over the past three years.

Speaking on behalf of the Department of Assets Management and Recovery, Special Adviser Gilbert Agbor said the department has become a key institution in the state’s efforts to reclaim lost assets, protect public property and ensure prudent management of government resources.

According to him, the department has carried out audits, investigations and enforcement actions designed to identify and recover government assets while blocking leakages that undermine public revenue.

Agbor said the reforms have also focused on strengthening transparency and ensuring that public assets contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic development

Chairman of the Forum and Special Adviser on General Duties, Barrister Ekpenyong Akiba, said the administration remains committed to responsible governance and prudent resource management.

He noted that beyond infrastructure development, government has placed emphasis on protecting public assets and improving service delivery.

Akiba explained that the media briefing was organised to provide residents with updates on government activities and achievements across different sectors.

The briefing also featured presentations on infrastructure, education and urban renewal. Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Raphael Adoga, said the administration had executed numerous road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state’s three senatorial districts.

He added that several government facilities, including the State Library Complex, legislative residences and the Governor’s Office, had been renovated and remodelled to improve service delivery.

Adoga further disclosed that work on the Obudu International Cargo Airport was nearing completion, with navigational equipment already installed ahead of its commencement of operations.

The advisers maintained that the administration’s achievements in asset recovery, infrastructure renewal and public sector reforms demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development and efficient management of public resources.
