2027: Youth Group pledges support for Ex Bauchi governor’s candidacy

A Youth group known as Youth Forward Initiative (YFI) has pledged its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar (SAN) in Bauchi state for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Mr Garba Musa, the Chairman of the group disclosed this in a news conference in Bauchi on Friday.

It could be recalled that Abubakar had previously served as the governor of the state for four years but was later defeated by the incumbent governor, Bala Mohammed during the 2019 governorship election in the state to deny him his second tenure.

According to the chairman of YFI, the decision to support Abubakar was made after a careful observation of the political landscape, wide consultation across the group’s members, stakeholders engagement and the review of records, capacities and leadership credentials of those aspiring to lead Bauchi State in the forthcoming political dispensation.

“After extensive deliberations, Youth Forward Initiative (YFI), Bauchi State Chapter, hereby declares its support for the aspiration and candidature of Barrister Mohammed Abubakar, SAN, former Governor of Bauchi State,” he said.

Highlighting some of the reasons for the support, Musa said that the Former governor possessed practical knowledge of governance, public administration, policy implementation, and resource management, adding that at a time when the state requires tested leadership, experience seen in Abubakar remains a valuable asset.

The group also insisted that Abubakar governed the state during one of the most difficult economic periods in Nigeria’s history and attested that despite recession, declining federal allocations, inflation, and inherited liabilities, government institutions continued to function and public resources were managed with caution and responsibility.

“We believe Bauchi State deserves leaders who understand the value of public funds and the importance of financial discipline.

“Abubakar demonstrated commitment to institutional governance and due process. His administration introduced reforms aimed at strengthening government institutions and reducing waste.

“As young people, we seek leadership that can create opportunities, attract investment, support entrepreneurship, and expand economic opportunities for the next generation.

“We believe his experience and network position him to engage development partners, investors, and stakeholders capable of supporting youth-focused programmes,” Musa said.

He further explained that the group would mobilize, educate, and engage young people across Bauchi State to participate actively in the democratic process and continue to advocate issue-based politics and support leadership that prioritizes the welfare, development, and prosperity of the people in the state.

The Chairman called on all well-meaning citizens, youth organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to join hands with the group in building a better future for Bauchi State.
