The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports alleging that some candidates have been removed from the list of contestants for the 2027 general elections, insisting that it has no constitutional power to delist duly nominated candidates.
INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Bauchi State, Aliyu Shaba, stated this while briefing journalists in Bauchi on Monday.
He explained that the Commission had published the names and particulars of presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates submitted by the 19 registered political parties participating in the 2027 general elections, in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act.
According to him, the publication is intended to enable members of the public to scrutinise and verify the credentials of the candidates.
Shaba clarified that the published list covers only presidential and National Assembly candidates, noting that the names of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates would be released in the coming weeks in accordance with the electoral timetable.
He stressed that contrary to rumours circulating on social media, INEC does not possess the authority to remove or delist any candidate after the nomination process, except as provided by law.
The participating political parties are AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APC, APM, APP, BP, DLA, LP, NDC, NDP, NNPP, NRM, PDP, PRP, SDP, YPD and ZLP.
Shaba also announced that the preliminary voter register would be displayed from Tuesday at all INEC offices across Bauchi State’s 20 local government areas to enable eligible voters who registered between May 3 and July 26, 2026, to verify their details and file claims or objections where necessary.
