‘I’m contesting to improve Bauchi, I didn’t leave anything behind’ –M.A Abubakar replies critics

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN), has vowed to improve the living standards of the people of the state if given another opportunity to govern.

Abubakar, who lost the 2023 governorship election to the incumbent Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, emerged as the APC flagbearer after defeating major contenders, including former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Bala Wunti, in the party’s governorship primary election.

Since his victory at the APC primary, his candidacy has continued to attract opposition from various quarters, including aggrieved members of his party, making his bid for a return to Government House an uphill task.

Speaking during the commissioning of the new office of the Salisiyyah Amana Support Groups for MA Abubakar (SAN) on Saturday in Bauchi, the former governor assured the people that his return to office would benefit every citizen of the state.

“Let me first of all thank the leader of the Salisiyyah Movement, Alhaji Salisu Sabo. I call him my son because Kawu Sabo is my elder brother. Accordingly, Salisu Sabo is my son,” he said.

“It gives me great pleasure to be in your midst to commission this magnificent edifice established by the Salisiyyah Amana Support Groups for MA Abubakar (SAN).

“Some people ask me what I have forgotten in Government House that has made me seek a return. My answer to them is that, as a person, I have not forgotten anything. However, I still have the good people of Bauchi State in mind.

“There are certain things that need to be done to uplift the living standards of the people of Bauchi State, and I believe I am now better equipped and more experienced to do them.

“Moreover, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allows me a second term of four years. I am protected by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

“That is my reason for contesting again, and by the grace of Allah, we will uplift the standard of living of the people of Bauchi State. We will improve the state as a whole and ensure fairness and development for every citizen, irrespective of tribe or religion.”
