Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District Shehu Buba Umar has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmaker who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) got the party’s ticket 24 hours after he joined PRP. Buba had pulled out of APC governorship primary election held on Friday, claiming lack of internal democracy and violation of the party and country’s constitutions.

PRP Deputy National Vice Chairman (North) who also coordinated the State primary election, Haruna Buhari, announced Buba as the winner and party’s gubernatorial candidate for Bauchi.

Buhari said the exercise formed part of the PRP’s nationwide primary elections conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in accordance with party guidelines and electoral laws.

Buhari explained that Buba emerged as the sole cleared aspirant for the governorship ticket and fulfilled all constitutional and legal requirements necessary for his affirmation,“The party constitution provides for affirmation even where there is only one aspirant. The delegates must agree and return the candidate elected, and that process has been completed.

Buhari said that 766 delegates drawn from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State participated in the process and endorsed Buba as the party’s candidate.
