Plan International has taken menstrual hygiene management training to students with special needs while advocating period-friendly society where menstruation is not seen as taboo.

A senior Senior Project Coordinator at Plan International, Nasiru Mohammed Musa, explained that the project being supported by the Global Affairs Canada focuses on right knowledge about menstruation, availability of menstrual hygiene commodities, adequate WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities and equipment in place.

The organisation in partnership with Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) was at the Special School, General Hassan Katsina College in Bauchi, over the weekend to strengthen knowledge of menstruation.

Musa said that the organisations were making a commitment to educate and ensure that everyone understands what menstruation is and work towards ensuring a safe, healthy, and dignified menstrual experience for all.

The Principal, Special School, Bauchi, Mrs. Jamila Salisu Garba, applauded the organisation for its dedication to promoting the health, dignity, and well-being of children, youth and women.

“Your support demonstrates a strong commitment, ensuring every child, regardless of his ability, has access to the knowledge and resources needed. Thank you very much for choosing our special needs students to commemorate this week.”
