The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has congratulated Alhaji Idris Usman Sambo on his appointment as the substantive Managing Director of the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV).
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed appointed Sambo to head the state-owned television station, a development the NUJ described as recognition of his wealth of professional experience and contributions to journalism and media development.
In a congratulatory statement dated November 6, 2026, and signed by its Secretary, Isiyaka Ismail Wunti, the council said Sambo’s longstanding commitment to the growth of the media industry in Bauchi State informed the significance of the appointment.
The union noted that Sambo had served in various capacities, including Managing Director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Chairman of the NUJ Bauchi State Council, where he made notable contributions to the journalism profession and the welfare of journalists.
According to the council, his experience in media management and understanding of broadcasting operations would strengthen BATV’s institutional capacity, enhance professionalism and promote effective public information, education and enlightenment.
The NUJ urged the new managing director to deploy his experience in sustaining professionalism, fairness and ethical journalism while promoting institutional development at the station.
It expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on the responsibilities of his new office and wished him a successful and rewarding tenure.
The council also commended Mrs Fibi Kafi for her dedication and contributions while serving as Acting Managing Director of BATV.
It particularly acknowledged her efforts in sustaining the station’s operations and administrative responsibilities during the transition period before the appointment of a substantive managing director.
The union encouraged Kafi to maintain her spirit of professionalism, cooperation and commitment to media development, while wishing her success in her future professional engagements.
