A Christian youth group in Bauchi State under the aegis of the Zauren Alheri Initiative has declared support for the 2027 governorship aspiration of Bala Maijama’a Wunti on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, describing him as a competent and unifying leader capable of transforming the state.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday when leaders and members of the group paid a solidarity visit to the headquarters of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) in Bauchi ahead of the 2027 political season.
Chairman of the initiative, Samson Achimugu, said the group arrived at the decision after assessing the political landscape and evaluating Dr Wunti’s leadership qualities, humanitarian activities, and commitment to youth development across religious and ethnic divides.
According to him, many Christian youths in the state had benefitted from Dr Wunti’s empowerment programmes, scholarship initiatives, and livelihood support interventions.
“Dr Bala Wunti has demonstrated that leadership is about service, compassion, and inclusiveness. His support for ordinary people, irrespective of religion or tribe, has given hope to many families and inspired confidence among youths across Bauchi State,” Achimugu said.
He urged the APC aspirant to sustain programmes aimed at improving the welfare of youths and vulnerable groups across the state.
Also speaking, women political activist, Asabe Tula Abimelech, said members of the initiative had unanimously adopted Dr Wunti as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
She called on stakeholders of the APC in Bauchi State to rally behind him in the interest of party unity and development.
“Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti remains the most competent, visionary, and accessible aspirant in the race. He possesses the leadership capacity, administrative experience, and human development agenda needed to move Bauchi State forward,” she stated.
Abimelech further appealed to Dr Wunti to prioritise girl-child education, women and youth empowerment, and scholarship opportunities for indigent Christian students if elected governor.
Responding on behalf of the organisation, Chief Executive Officer of BWSO, Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, thanked the group for the confidence reposed in Dr Wunti’s leadership vision.
He described the endorsement as an indication that citizens across different religious and social backgrounds believe in the aspirant’s capacity to provide purposeful leadership and sustainable development for Bauchi State.
Jarmajo said Dr Wunti remained committed to inclusiveness, unity, and equitable development, adding that the state deserved leadership that prioritises the welfare of all citizens without discrimination.
He assured the delegation that Dr Wunti would continue supporting programmes targeted at empowering youths, women, and vulnerable groups, noting that education and human capital development remained central to his vision for the state.
The group also pledged to mobilise support for Dr Wunti ahead of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.
