Bauchi ADC picks Atiku as preferred presidential candidate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State has picked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Atiku is in the race with former Minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers State Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen under the platform of ADC. Although, Atiku is from Adamawa State, North East, his stronghold.

The party officials, stakeholders and supporters staged the endorsement on Sunday in Bauchi amid growing support from the grassroots.

The party chairman in the state, Shuaibu Dankama announced the party’s decision with affirmation from supporters.

Dankama said that: “Today marks another important milestone and turning point in the political history of our dear State and our great Nation. We are gathered here as committed democrats and patriotic Nigerians to formally adopt His Excellency, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa, as the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 General Elections.

“This decision was not taken lightly. It followed wider consultations among party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women groups, professionals, and committed members of the party across Bauchi State. We have carefully assessed the present condition of our country and the urgent need for its rescue, which needs an experienced, courageous, and competent person for the rescue mission.”

According to him, Nigeria faces numerous challenges ranging from economic, rising unemployment, inflation, poverty, and growing hopelessness among the citizens and most threatening insecurity.

“Our people are yearning for leadership with vision, compassion, experience, and national acceptance. After careful consideration, we realised and were convinced that, Alh. Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, political maturity, national reach, and democratic credentials required to reposition Nigeria on the path of progress, unity, stability, and prosperity.”

He said as a former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has played numerous roles in the socio economic, political transformation and reforms that strengthened the private sector, encouraged investments, and expanded opportunities for millions of Nigerians.

“His commitment to democracy, national unity, restructuring and inclusive governance remains consistent and unwavering. The people of Bauchi State have a long-standing relationship with Wazirin Adamawa,” he said.

He urged the party’s supporters, particularly the youths to remain peaceful, loyal to the ideals of the party and eschew any form of indiscipline or violence and play the game of politics in line with the rules and regulations as provided in the Electoral Act, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other extant rules and regulations guiding the electoral process.
