JALINGO — The Nigeria Police Force has officially commissioned its first permanent state command headquarters in Taraba since the state’s creation in 1991. The landmark event marks the end of 35 years of reliance on temporary office arrangements for the state’s security coordination.
The commissioning, held in Yorro LGA, was attended by top security officials and government representatives. Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastien, noted that the state-of-the-art facility will serve as the central hub for all police security operations in the state.
The project was realized through a strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Government, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
Addressing the attendees, CP Sebastien remarked, “The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991. However, it is better late than never. This project stands as a testament to the determination of the Nigeria Police Force leadership to leave a lasting legacy.”
The IGP’s representative further urged officers to prioritize the maintenance of the new facility as a vital institutional asset and reiterated the necessity of intelligence-led policing, calling on traditional leaders, civil society, and the public to maintain a steady flow of information to prevent criminal activity.
The Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, emphasized that the project is part of a broader federal “Renewed Hope Agenda” aimed at modernizing security infrastructure nationwide.
Representing Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas at the ceremony, the Commandant of the Taraba Marshall, CP Abeh Cyril (rtd), reaffirmed the state’s dedication to supporting security agencies.
He stressed that a secure environment is a prerequisite for the state to attain its full developmental potential.
In addition to the new state headquarters, Governor Kefas also commissioned a modern Divisional Police headquarters in Pantinapo.
