Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the disruption of activities and destruction of property at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Bauchi during the party’s governorship primary election.
The suspects, identified as Hamza Abdullahi, also known as “Dawa,” and Abdul Malik Dahiru, alias “Black,” were arrested by officers attached to the ‘B’ Division, GRA, following investigations into the incident which occurred on May 24, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, unknown persons stormed the PDP Secretariat located along Maiduguri Bypass at about 2:00 p.m. while the governorship primary election was ongoing.
The hoodlums reportedly disrupted the peace at the venue, vandalized campaign banners belonging to the PDP governorship candidate, and smashed the windscreens of several vehicles parked around the area before fleeing on motorcycles.
The incident, which generated widespread reactions on social media, prompted the command to launch intelligence-driven investigations that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
The police said the suspects have been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the command for further investigation.
“The suspects have been handed over to the VCRU for discreet and comprehensive investigation. Upon conclusion of investigation, they will be charged to court accordingly,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned against acts capable of causing a breach of public peace and destruction of property, particularly during political activities.
He assured residents that the command remained committed to ensuring safety and security across the state and would not tolerate violence or political thuggery.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
