A coalition of non-governmental organisations has provided learning materials to indigent students of Government Junior Secondary School, Gwallameji, Bauchi State, as part of efforts to promote access to quality education.

The intervention was carried out on September 30, 2026, under the Back-to-School Project organised by the Child is Gold Foundation (CIGF), with 50 students benefiting from the outreach.

The initiative, which focused on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), also featured sensitisation sessions aimed at equipping students with knowledge to navigate adolescence and protect themselves from unsafe situations.

Speaking during the programme, Maryam Garba of the IKRA Foundation emphasised the importance of education, using storytelling to encourage the students to remain consistent, hardworking and committed to their studies.

She urged them to see education as an important pathway towards achieving their aspirations and contributing positively to society.

Also speaking, Mr Esly Yohanna of CIGF conducted an interactive session on reproductive health, during which students were sensitised on adolescence, bodily autonomy and the importance of reporting unsafe situations to trusted adults.

The organisers distributed 396 books, 86 pencils, 64 pens and one carton of chalk to support teaching and learning during the academic term.

The outreach was anchored by Saminu Ishaya Shomgwan and supported through collaboration with IKRA Foundation, CASCADE, IMIGAN Hope Empowerment Initiative, Big Moms Initiative and G100.

The organisers said the partnership demonstrated the importance of collaboration among civil society organisations in addressing educational and wellbeing challenges confronting vulnerable children.

They added that the Back-to-School Project was designed not only to provide learning materials but also to strengthen students’ awareness of education, health and personal safety.
