There has been a palpable fear within the residents of Gwallaga area of Bauchi metropolis as attackers slaughtered a 33-year-old Najamu Aminu while sleeping in his room on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026.
According to residents of the area, the deceased was found lifeless, covered with blood. They believed that the attack was carried out in the night while he was sleeping. The murder has thrown the residents of the area into panic and confusion.
Residents had reported the killing to the Township Police ‘A Division’ while operatives evacuated the corpse and was said to have been returned to the family within three hours for burial.
While speaking on the incident on Friday, the team lead of the Organisation for African Child Development and Human Rights Protection, Barr. Alkasim Muhammad queried alleged silence from the D.P.O of the area, days after the homicide was committed.
According to the organisation, the D.P.O as at 10th June, 2026 “failed to invite or arrest any suspect in connection with the alleged assassination of the deceased. No Police officer has returned to the crime scene to interview witnesses, gather evidence, actions expected of a serious Police investigation.
“Why did the D.P.O so quickly release the deceased’s body for burial within three hours without investigation? Why did the D.P.O single handedly treat a homicide case at the divisional level without transferring it to the C.I.D for further investigation having fully known that such cases are above divisional level? Why did the D.P.O fail to revisit the crime scene for further investigation?” he said.
The organisation urged the Commissioner of Police to form a special investigative team to thoroughly investigate the case with the seriousness it demands.
“Order the immediate exhumation of the victim’s body for an autopsy. Arrange for the immediate arrest of the suspect for questioning and interrogation.
“Deploy new D.P.O within 24 hours to “A Division” in order to allow fair investigation as he has already compromised and is likely to influence the outcome of investigation. Constitute a very strong panel to investigate the actions of the said D.P.O.” they prayed.
Meanwhile, the Command in reaction through the Spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said that the case was reported ‘A’ Division, Township, and has commenced preliminary investigation. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
Operatives of the SCID have since taken over the matter and commenced in-depth investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the crime.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has assured members of the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned until justice is served. He urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to report promptly to the nearest police station or to the investigating team.”
