Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State have expressed concerns over the delay in the conduct of the state governorship primary election.

The stakeholders express frustrations, saying that the electoral committee has not set out the process of the conduct of the primaries. While speaking on behalf of the aggrieved members, Musa Buba Mohammed, called for transparency and fairness while ensuring internal democracy.

He said that the majority of the party members in the state do not support consensus arrangements.

“We are here to see the members of the sub-committee that are sent to Bauchi to conduct the primary election for the governorship primary election. And unfortunately, we did not see them. We are here to register our grievances that we are in democracy.

“Democracy is for all of us. The few cannot come and take the face of the state. What we are demanding for is a peaceful, free, and fair primary election. We want democracy. That’s all that we want.”

He said that the party members have heard that the APC has postponed the state election. “We need the election to be credible. That’s why we are here to see the officials. We are waiting for the date. Whenever they announce the date, we are ready to go to the election. What we want is an election.

“We don’t have any feelings over the postponement of the primary election. We don’t have any feelings. Why is there postponement? Why did they postpone the election? Why? There must be a reason for the postponement. Otherwise, how come they conducted the national assembly and state assembly primaries? Why did they have to postpone that of Bauchi and Kwara states, which means there’s a power play.”

However, it has not been establish that the election has been called off. The Committee has remained unseen in the state while the officials of the party in Bauchi declined comments on the primary election.

Comrade Abdulaziz Nasrullah said they were aware that the exercise has been suspended and the primary election would be held tomorrow. “We don’t know the reason for the change, why are they going to hold the primary election tomorrow?”
