Police Investigate Death of 14-Year-Old Girl in Cross River Community

The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl, Nancy Peter, in Wula Community, Boki Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement, the Command said preliminary findings indicated that the deceased was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment by her mother, Mrs. Agnes Peter, over allegations of theft.

Police further stated that the mother subsequently took the teenager to Pastor Samson Roman Dago, where she was allegedly subjected to further corporal punishment with a cane.

According to the statement, the victim later became unconscious and was rushed to a medical facility in Wula Community for treatment.

She was subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police said a thorough investigation had been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the extent of involvement of all persons connected to the case.

The Command stated that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

Police also addressed reports alleging that the minor was sexually assaulted.

According to the statement, investigations have not established any evidence to substantiate the claims, while medical examinations and other investigative procedures are ongoing.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their work.

It assured residents that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
