Taraba Suspends Mining Activities Over  Security Threats

Jalingo –

The Taraba State Government has suspended all mining activities across the state following credible intelligence reports of security threats that could jeopardize peace and stability.

In a statement issued on Friday night by the Secretary to the State Government, Gebon Timothy Kataps, Governor Agbu Kefas also announced that a new task force would be constituted to ensure security and safety in mining operations once all identified threats have been addressed.

The governor further directed all local government councils and traditional rulers to ensure strict compliance with the directive suspending mining activities across the state.

He warned that any violation of the directive would be regarded as an act of defiance and would attract appropriate sanctions.

Kefas also urged authorities at the grassroots to promptly report any breach of the directive to the nearest security agency.

The government further announced that it would meet with artisanal miners next week to update them on new security measures and vigilance requirements.

Governor Kefas reiterated his commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that mining activities resume only in a secure and properly regulated environment.

He also urged residents of the state to cooperate fully with security agencies and report any suspicious activities.
