JALINGO, TARABA STATE — Two suspects are in police custody following a fatal stabbing incident at the busy Angwan Kassa junction in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Wednesday.
The violent clash, which claimed the life of a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) union ticket distributor, has sparked widespread tension and disrupted public transportation across the city.
Ticket Dispute Escalates into Fatal Stabbing
According to reports gathered by publicnewsng, the altercation erupted when the deceased intercepted a Keke NAPEP operator for driving without the mandatory daily union ticket.
Witnesses revealed that the victim insisted on enforcing payment, leading to a heated exchange with the operator. The argument escalated into violence, during which the pass distributor was stabbed. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Taraba Police Command Launches Investigation
The Taraba State Police Command responded swiftly to restore order in the suburb.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Victor Mshelizah, stated that two key suspects were apprehended shortly after the attack.
“Two suspects have been taken into custody and are undergoing interrogation. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” ASP Mshelizah confirmed.
Jalingo Commuters Stranded as Keke Operators Strike
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local transport sector, causing panic among residents and commercial drivers alike.
Operators running the busy Area Command Junction – Angwan Kassa – Deeper Life Camp axis have completely abandoned their parks in protest and out of fear of reprisal attacks.
The sudden halt in transit services has stranded hundreds of daily commuters, forcing many to trek long distances to reach alternative pickup points.
However, as of Friday, normalcy have returned to the area and tricycle operators are back to their parks.
